QnA

1)How Did You Plan To Get Into The Field You Are In Now?

I Realized I Wanted To Be In The HR Field After Just A Year Of Working At My First Job Which Was Actually In Data Processing And Was Different From An HR Job. So I Planned My Next Steps Carefully That Helped Me Move Into HR. I Studied Further In HR Along With My Job And Then I Took Up A Small Job In An HR Firm. It In Fact Paid Me Less Than My First Job, But I Took It Up As I Wanted To Get Into HR. I Then Worked My Way Up In The Firm As A Business Head And Then Moved To A Bank In A Senior HR Role. I Worked In The Bank For 10 Yrs And Moved Up To Become Head HR. I Then Left  That Job To Study Further In UK And Now I Have My Own Firm That Looks After HR And Wellbeing.

2)Any Professional Courses Which Helped You?

Yes. I Did A Part Time Post-Graduation In HR And Very Recently A Master’s In Psychology. I Also Used The Pandemic Time To
Get Myself Certified As A Psychotherapist.
Apart From These, Have Done Many Other Short Courses To Constantly Update Myself In The Fields Of HR And Wellbeing.

3)Any Extra-Curricular Activities Which Helped You Mould Your Personality?

I Was Always Interested In Writing And Usually Participated In Activities Related With Writing. This Helped Me Immensely. When I Started My Own Blog On Career Matters And When I Would Write, Various Articles For My Bank In The Print Media. Even Now As An Entrepreneur I Have To Constantly Write.

4)Did You Ever Plan To Have An Alternate Career, Why Did You Not Pursue It? Any Regrets?

I Wanted To Be A Psychiatrist When I Was A Child. But I Did Not Pursue That Earlier In My Career. But I Don’t Believe In Living A Life With Regrets, So Very Recently I Jumped At The Opportunity Of Studying Psychology And Becoming A Psychotherapist.

5)What Are The Skills Required To Do Your Job?

I Play The Roles Of Both A Psychotherapist And Entrepreneur Today.

As A Psychotherapist One Needs To Have High Emotional Intelligence While Counselling Both Children And Adults.

An Entrepreneur’s Job Is Tough. One Has To Do Everything. But The Most Important Skills For Me Are Selling Skills, Communication Skills,
Relationship Management And Business Management.

6)Challenges In The Current Profession

Since The Pandemic, Most Companies Cut Down Costs And So There Were Lesser Opportunities For My Firm To Work On HR Matters.
And So Bringing In New Business Is One Of The Biggest Challenges. Another Dilemma Is Should We Choose Profit Or Growth.

7)Scope, Opportunities For People Wanting To Join The Same Career?

Opportunities To Become An Entrepreneur Are Plenty In Our Country. But One Should Be Passionate About The Field.
Alternatively, HR Opportunities Are Also Constantly On The Rise In Organisations.

8)How Do You Deal With Failure At Work?

My Dad Once Told Me A Story…When He Was In His Teens, He Took Part In An Underwater Swimming Competition Even Though He Wasn’t A Great Swimmer Then. When The Race Started, He Went In The Water And Swam For Good Amount Of Time. He Was Very Happy With His Performance. But When He Came Out Of The Water, He Saw That He Was Still At The Same Place Where He Had Started And Everyone In The Audience Was Laughing At Him. Instead Of Feeling Bad About His Failure, He Decided That He Will Learn Underwater Swimming. He Practiced And Practiced And The Next Year, He Again Took Part In The Same Race And Came First And The Whole Audience Applauded Him For This. I Always Remember This When I Fail. I Tell Myself Not To Feel Bad But To Use Itto Motivate Me To Do Much Better In Future. Failure Is A Stepping Stone To Success.

9)Can You Emphasize The Importance Of Maths And Knowledge Of Maths In Your Profession?

I Was Very Lucky To Have My Dad As My Maths Teacher. He Made Maths Very Simple And Always Explained The Reason For The Steps Rather Than Simply Memorizing Them. This Helped Me Immensely In Improving My Logical Skills And My Quantitative Skills. While Working For A Bank, You Are
Constantly Dealing With Numbers And So Having A Strong Hold On Maths Was A Huge Advantage For Me. I Think Maths Is Such A Universal Subject That In Any And Every Field, It Gives You An Advantage.
