QnA

  • How did you plan to get into the field you are in now?

I remember in my late 20’s and there onwards, friends and family would Instill trust in me and seek my point-of-view, on good or challenging situations they would be in during that time. I had that deep sense of empathy for others and gave impartial yet sound feedback. I had listening skills that came to me from my mother and started feeling confident about me helping others. While these qualities were building inside me, I focused on gaining knowledge in the field of business and had this plan in mind that at one stage in my career I will run parallel career paths in business field and personal coaching once I can manage my responsibilities towards my family in terms of time and finances.

I pursued MBA when I was working and the success there catapulted me into leadership positions, and I grew strength-to-strength in my career as a business development and winning executive. I worked my way up in 20 years to head strategic bid management in a large IT company. I then left the corporate job and partnered with a UK based company that specialises in coaching large companies in business winning. Meanwhile I got certified as a career guidance expert and success coach last year and am now have realised the dream of the two parallel career paths.

  • Any professional courses which helped you?

Yes indeed. Masters in Business Management transformed my outlook towards the business world. I achieved Success Coach certification during the pandemic period, in addition to Career Mentorship certification that I had achieved three year ago.

  • Any extra-curricular activities which helped you mould your personality

I like reading books especially biographies and self-improvement ones. Books can be one of our best companions that can take you into the authors’ world and understand their perspective to various topics that interest us.

My interest in playing team sport, especially cricket, helped shaped my personality as a team player and developed leadership skills as and when opportunities came by.

  • Did you ever plan to have an alternate career, why did you not pursue it? Any regrets?

I wanted to be an Aeronautical engineer or become a fighter pilot through NDA. Although I had regrets about not being able to pursue these options due to various circumstances, after I turned 30 and realised there is always a silver lining and opportunities galore if one seeks out and stays hungry.

  • What are the Skills required to do your job

As I am playing multiple roles as a success coach for both individuals and corporates, these roles demand high level of positivity towards outcomes.

Emotional intelligence is the key to my job along with communication skills when speaking to clients who belong to varied age groups.

Time management, too, is of prime importance.

  • Challenges in the current profession

Spreading awareness about the profession one is in – ‘Personal Brand’ building is a challenge in this world of information overload. Companies and individuals keep a check on spending where it comes to either development of their employees or themselves in order to be able to achieve desired success.

  • Scope, opportunities for people wanting to join the same career.

Coaching is a broad field of career and of course there are many opportunities to carve a niche for oneself. It takes persistent efforts in self-learning and development and years of dedication to gain the respect and trust of your clients. Success breeds success.

  • How do you deal with Failure at work

A wise person has said “If you are failing, means you are trying. Great!”. Failures in life have been difficult for me to handle in the beginning undoubtedly; but over time I learnt that failures are your best teachers if one learns to get up, walk tall and move on after each failure and of course not repeat the same mistakes. My dad used to say “Grow yourself in a way that you deserve the best, but also be ready to face the worst”.

  • Can you emphasize the importance of Maths and knowledge of maths in your profession.

Maths is one of those gifts to humanity that has played a huge role in developing our generations from strength to strength. It is the core of amazing development that we humans have achieved as generations pass on their legacy to the subsequent ones.

Whether it is my profession or any walk of life, Maths is an integral part of us. It is not just numbers, but the analytical ability that it can build inside us is magical.

The reason why the universe has gifted us a Sun that rises and sets every day, is that you get a new day, new energy and new opportunities to grow yourself bit by bit. There will be setbacks, bad days, good days, not-so-good days; but as long as you have the ‘passion’ to succeed burning inside you, nothing and nobody can stop you.
